“We only have one future and it will be made of our dreams, if we have the courage to challenge convention.” –Soichiro Honda (founder)
Honda began not as a business, but as a dream. Over 70 years ago, Soichiro Honda imagined a way to make people’s lives better by creating an affordable means of transport. With his love of machinery and challenging spirit, he created his first motorised bicycle. From this small beginning Honda has grown to become the world’s largest engine manufacturer.
Honda’s commitment and significant investment in R&D over many years has seen Honda create an array of revolutionary new technology. The first i-VTEC engine, the first commercial hybrid vehicle – Insight, the Honda FCX Clarity – a hydrogen powered vehicle that emits only water vapour, ASIMO – the first humanoid robot.
Innovation can be found in each and every Honda today. Last year alone Honda spent over 9 billion NZ$ on Research & Development.
